  • 1 ¼ cups buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 45 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • sprinkles for garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a 9x13x3-inch baking dish with baking spray.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. In a stand mixer, cream the softened butter, vegetable oil, and granulated sugar for 3 minutes until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mix in egg yolks and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add half of the dry ingredients and stir to combine, then add half of the buttermilk. Repeat with the remaining ingredients, scraping down the sides as needed.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick. Cover with foil if browning too much.
  8. Allow the cake to cool completely.
