  • 2 cups black beans (cooked or canned, drained and rinsed)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup bbq sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/4 cup onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • burger buns or lettuce wraps
  • lettuce
  • sliced tomatoes
  • red onion
  • pickles
  • avocado slices

Instructions

  1. Mash the black beans in a bowl until mostly smooth with some texture remaining.
  2. Stir in the garlic, onion, breadcrumbs, BBQ sauce, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper until well blended and firm.
  3. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into patties.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook patties for 4–5 minutes on each side until they are firm and slightly crispy.
  5. Alternatively, bake or grill the patties if desired.
  6. Place the cooked patties on burger buns or lettuce wraps.
  7. Top with lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onion, pickles, or avocado.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy.
