Ingredients
- 650 g strong white flour, about 5 cups
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 400 ml lukewarm water (between 90–100 degrees f), about 1 2/3 cup
- 1 ½ tsp sugar
- 7 g dried instant yeast
- 40 g lard or butter, about 3 tbsp
Instructions
- Combine dry ingredients and lard in a bowl, mixing well using a fork or your fingers.
- In a separate bowl, mix the yeast, warm water, and sugar; let the yeast bloom for 5 minutes.
- Combine the yeast mixture with the dry ingredients in a stand mixer and knead for 10 minutes.
- Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Divide the risen dough into 9-12 equal portions and shape them into rolls. Place them in a parchment-lined baking pan, dusting the tops with flour. Let them rise again for 1 to 1.5 hours until they are touching each other.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F and bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or longer if a darker color is desired.
- After baking, allow the rolls to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Ensure the water temperature is correct for activating yeast; too hot may kill it.
You can substitute lard with butter for a different flavor profile.
These rolls can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
