Ground Beef and Dumplings brings together rich flavors and simple preparation. This comfortable dish features tender beef, fresh veggies, and light dumplings, making it an ideal choice for a quick dinner that satisfies the heart and palate.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Heat a large pot over medium heat and brown the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Add the diced onion and cook until soft and translucent, then stir in the garlic until fragrant.
  3. Sprinkle in the flour and stir to coat the meat, allowing it to absorb the fat.
  4. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add carrots, peas, salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme and let simmer for 10-15 minutes until vegetables are tender and broth thickens.
  5. For the dumplings, mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Stir in milk and melted butter until a soft dough forms.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dumpling dough onto the simmering beef mixture. Cover and let dumplings cook for 12-15 minutes, avoiding frequent peeking to keep the steam in.
  7. Once the dumplings are puffed up and cooked through, serve hot.

Make sure to break up the beef thoroughly for even cooking.
Let the dumplings sit covered while cooking, as this helps them become fluffy.
Feel free to add your favorite vegetables to the stew for added variety.
