  • Total Time: 2 hours 25 minutes
  • Yield: 20 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large Granny Smith apples peeled and cored, diced
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup light brown sugar packed
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup light brown sugar packed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup full fat sour cream
  • 3 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and greased a 9×13-inch cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the diced apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon before adding the melted butter. Mix until crumbly and set this aside.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. In a separate large bowl, beat together the oil, milk, and granulated sugar, then incorporate eggs one at a time. Mix in the sour cream and vanilla until smooth.
  6. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  7. Spread half of the batter into the prepared cake pan, followed by the apple mixture, then cover with the remaining batter. Finally, sprinkle the crumb topping over the batter.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Once baked, allow the cake to cool on the counter.
  10. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla together and drizzle over the cooled cake.
