Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- Several turns of cracked black pepper
- 1/2 cup chopped red onion
- 1 bunch broccoli (about 4 cups chopped florets)
- 1 small head cauliflower (about 4 cups chopped florets)
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 8 strips cooked bacon (chopped)
- 1/2 cup raisins or cranberries (optional)
Instructions
- Soak the chopped red onion in cold water for 10 minutes, then drain (this step is optional).
- In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sugar, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- In a large bowl, combine the broccoli and cauliflower florets, drained onions, cheddar cheese, cooked bacon, and raisins or cranberries if desired.
- Pour the dressing over the salad and toss until well mixed. Although you can serve it right away, it’s recommended to chill for 30 minutes to 2 hours for better flavor. Stir before serving as the dressing may settle.

Soaking the red onion helps mellow its flavor, making it less overpowering.
Chilling the salad allows the flavors to meld beautifully, enhancing the taste.
Feel free to add other ingredients like sunflower seeds or nuts for extra crunch.
