  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 12 tablespoons warm water (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional for glaze)

Instructions

  • Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg and vanilla, mixing well.
  • Whisk dry ingredients together in a separate bowl.
  • Combine dry mixture into wet mixture until just combined.
  • Color half of the dough with red food coloring.
  • Form marbled dough by rolling the colors together.
  • Chill wrapped dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven and prepare cookie sheets.
  • Roll out dough, cut into shapes, and place on sheets.
  • Bake until lightly browned and set at edges.
  • Cool cookies on a wire rack.
  • Prepare glaze and coat cookies, allowing to dry.
