Ingredients

  • 8 ripe lemons
  • 2 ripe oranges
  • 1 liter Everclear or 100 proof vodka
  • 8¾ cups whole milk
  • 5 lbs sugar (around 10 cups)
  • 1 shot bourbon or whiskey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Peel the lemons and oranges, avoiding the white pith.
  • Soak the peels in alcohol at room temperature for a week.
  • Strain the infused alcohol and transfer it to a saucepan.
  • Add whole milk, sugar, bourbon, and vanilla extract to the saucepan.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then simmer for five minutes.
  • Cool the mixture completely and skim off the film.
  • Strain the limoncello into bottles and store in the freezer.
