  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) hot coffee
  • 1/2 cup (112 g) unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 1/4 tsp salt (for frosting)
  • 3/4 cup (60 g) Dutch-process cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 2 1/4 cups (292 g) powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 6 tbsp (90 ml) heavy cream (for frosting)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare the pan.
  • Mix all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  • Cream softened butter with granulated sugar until fluffy.
  • Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients, adding buttermilk gradually.
  • Incorporate hot coffee into the batter.
  • Pour batter into the cake pan and bake for 48-52 minutes.
  • For frosting, melt butter and mix with salt and cocoa powder.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream, mixing until smooth.
  • Frost the cooled cake and add toppings as desired.
