Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter*, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons warm water
  • 2 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 and 3/4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips, for pressing on top

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C). Prepare a 9×13 inch pan with parchment or grease it.
  • Dissolve baking soda in warm water and set aside.
  • Beat softened butter in a mixing bowl for about 2 minutes until fluffy.
  • Add granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat until fluffy.
  • Incorporate eggs and vanilla; mix until combined.
  • Add dissolved baking soda mixture; mix for at least 1 minute.
  • Mix in flour, cornstarch, and salt until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips gently.
  • Transfer dough to the pan, pressing evenly and flattening the top.
  • Press additional chocolate chips on top.
  • Bake for 25-27 minutes until golden and the center is firm.
  • Let cool before slicing and enjoying.
