  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (12 Tbsp; 170g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 3/4 cup (150g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/4 cups (225g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (8 Tbsp; 113g) unsalted butter
  • 8 ounces (228g) coarsely chopped quality semi-sweet chocolate
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) packed light brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup + 2 Tablespoons (78g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 2 Tablespoons (10g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a deep-dish 9-inch pie pan.
  • For the cookie layer, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt.
  • Beat softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy. Mix in egg and vanilla.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients, then fold in chocolate chips and press into the prepared pan.
  • For the brownie layer, melt butter and chopped chocolate, then cool and whisk in sugars, eggs, and vanilla.
  • Stir in flour, cocoa powder, and salt, and spread batter over the cookie layer.
  • Bake for 45-60 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
