- 1 cup water
- 1 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, packed
- 1 1/2 cups fresh-squeezed lemon juice (from 5–6 large lemons)
- 7 cups cold water
- Ice
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
- Lemon wedges for garnish
Instructions
- Combine 1 cup of water and 1 3/4 cups of sugar in a pot and bring to a boil.
- Allow mixture to boil until sugar dissolves (1-2 mins) and then turn off heat.
- Tear and bruise 1/4 cup of basil leaves in a bowl.
- Pour hot sugar syrup over bruised basil and refrigerate for 2-3 hours.
- Juice 5-6 lemons to get 1 1/2 cups of lemon juice, strain to remove seeds.
- In a pitcher, mix strained lemon juice with 7 cups cold water and ice.
- Strain cooled basil syrup into the pitcher and stir to combine.
- Serve over ice, garnished with basil leaves and lemon wedges.
