- ¼ cup (50 g) light brown sugar, packed
- ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 ¼ cups (147 g) all-purpose flour (divided)
- 4 cups (500 g) apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (about 4–5 medium apples)
- 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour (for filling)
- ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar (for filling)
- ½ cup (100 g) packed light brown sugar (for topping)
- ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar (for topping)
- ¾ cup (94 g) all-purpose flour (for topping)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons (85 g) chilled unsalted butter, cut into ½-inch cubes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350º F and prepare an 8×8 pan with parchment paper.
- Beat butter and light brown sugar until fluffy, mix in vanilla and add flour.
- Press dough into the bottom of the pan and bake for 12-14 minutes.
- Prepare apples by slicing and tossing with flour and sugar.
- Arrange apple slices over the baked crust.
- Mix topping ingredients and cut in chilled butter until crumbly.
- Spread the topping over the apples and bake for 45 minutes until golden.
- Allow to cool, lift bars from the pan, and cut into squares.
