  • 1 ¼ cups (147 g) all-purpose flour (divided)
  • 4 cups (500 g) apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (about 45 medium apples)
  • 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour (for filling)
  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar (for filling)
  • ½ cup (100 g) packed light brown sugar (for topping)
  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar (for topping)
  • ¾ cup (94 g) all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons (85 g) chilled unsalted butter, cut into ½-inch cubes

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350º F and prepare an 8×8 pan with parchment paper.
  • Beat butter and light brown sugar until fluffy, mix in vanilla and add flour.
  • Press dough into the bottom of the pan and bake for 12-14 minutes.
  • Prepare apples by slicing and tossing with flour and sugar.
  • Arrange apple slices over the baked crust.
  • Mix topping ingredients and cut in chilled butter until crumbly.
  • Spread the topping over the apples and bake for 45 minutes until golden.
  • Allow to cool, lift bars from the pan, and cut into squares.
